new york: derek lam

it's been only six years since he established his own label and now derek lam's very first flagship opened in new york city. the designer opted for sanaa, the tokyo-based bureau of recent new museum fame, to design the 2,800 sq.ft. store. located on the ground floor of a 19th-century manufacturing building, the space was first completely stripped bare. sanaa transformed the spot into a sophisticated minimalist shopping environment with a one-pour concrete floor and custom fitted furniture of wood and aluminium. the original brick walls were painted white to heighten the exhibition nature of the store. a spectacular feature are the transparent organic forms crafted of clear acrylic which create rooms within the store, each one housing a different collection. location: 10-12 crosby street [nolita]. © derek lam
