opening tue - feb 2 [6pm-8pm] at 80wse galleries is denim, a group exhibition that explores the various connotations of a material which began its life as a fabric for work clothes, but gradually has become a material for fashion, both instant and high-end couture. denim sheathes ideas that range from the implicitly erotic to the deeply revolutionary. curated by david rimanelli, the denim show displays a series of challenging works by various artists, such as karlheinz weinberger's portraits of 1960s gang subculture in zurich, an avant-garde andy warhol film from the very same era and artist k8 hardy's thought-provoking fashion photos. location: 80 washington square west [noho].
