the country may be immersed in a deep economic crisis but there are pockets in greece where the sun still shines brightly. the island of mykonos has been a longtime fav of travelers of the discerning kind, and it boasts a retail infrastructure that's well-adapted to their needs. the island currently sees a shopping renaissance of sorts with high-profile brands and retailers either setting up a new pop-up store or establishing a permanent new presence here. in the latter category falls athens-based retailer linea piu which has recently opened a sleek new boutique. designed by kois architecture associates, also based in the greek capital, the store is located in a traditional whitewashed structure and covers an area of 88 sqm. [947 sq.ft.]. while much of the building's original lay-out and elements have been retained, the interior has been given a contemporary makeover that's not only seamlessly compatible with the architecture, but also subtly honours the island's culture and history.
the store is furnished with custom-made iron displays and fittings along one side of the store, opposite a mirrored wall. a selection of carefully-sourced objects reflects various aspects of the island. a set of boxy leather stools conjure up traditional outdoor meeting places while at the back of the store an installation references the diffused soft light that mykonian shutters introduce to an interior space. linea piu's new store carries a similar range of women's apparel, shoes and accessories as the mothership in athens. the list of luxury brands includes chanel, tom ford, christopher kane, john galliano and blumarine. location: odos nikolaou kalogera 24 [chora].
