as one of germany's most affluent cities, life in munich is pretty good, and this is reflected in a retail landscape that continues to expand and diversify. stone island is one of the latest brands to arrive with a store on the prestigious maximilianstrasse. measuring 100 sqm. [1,076 sq.ft.], the interior design is based on the newly developed item/unit 2 concept by german industrial design agency zeichenweg, and seamlessly matches the merchandise on offer. each element of the shop setting is conceived with added emphasis on functionality. the stone island collection is innovatively presented on various hybrid structures, using luminous fibreglass, oiled oak and carbon elements mounted on parts in coloured anodized aluminium. the shelving, in mirrored alucobond and felt, are placed on oiled oak elements or on a coloured glass wall using modular elements borrowed from sailing world. natural stone is used as flooring, but cut in large lozenges that have been inspired by the bavarian flag and coats of arms. the new stone island store carries both the stone island and stone island junior collections, as well as items from the stone island shadow project. location: maximilianstrasse 27 [downtown].
