india is on the move, and nowhere else can its rapid development be better experienced than in bustling mumbai. as the country's epicentre of economic activity and home to 20 million people, a new new lifestyle infrastructure has popped up that can barely keep pace with the leisure preferences of a fast-growing demographc that loves living the good life. lower parel is one of mumbai's affluent neighbourhoods, and it's in this buzzing part of town where some of the city's coolest new shops, bars and restaurants have opened up. one of the latest to arrive is the white owl, a hipster haunt that combines a bar, bistro and brewery. set up by javed murad and kunjan chikhlikar, two graduates from business schools in the u.s. who brought back a taste of american nightlife. the white owl is hybrid hospitality concept, packaged in a contemporary, warehouse-like setting.
the space measures 2,500 sq.ft [232 sqm.] and has been designed by local design studio obataimu, featuring a quirky interior that pairs objects of 1950s bombay with industrial elements and blends in a hint of eye-popping las vegas kitsch. this is very much a cocktail den as such they're poured on the double [the liquor that is], and there's a wide and tasty variety of them. the very same can be said of the food. the white owl's menu lists plenty of options, pesto chicken skewers in hot chili, to gourmet potato gratin with caramelized onions and chives, chorizo hotdog and various yum pies. last but not least there's the micro brewery with a range of fine brews, and which is rather unique to india. a beer, anyone? location: one indiabulls centre, senapati bapat marg, tower 2b, lobby level [lower parel].
