the top echelon of russian retail may have been a little static lately, there's still intrepid action to be found among premium brands. sporstwear brand adidas has raised its profile with a brand new store dedicated to the adidas superstar, one of its iconic sneakers which was first launched in 1969. aptly named superstar moscow, the retail space is situated on ulitsa kuznetskiy most, one of the city's most expensive stretches of downtown real estate, and doubles as an art + events venue. occupying two floors of a rather monumental 19th-century structure built in italian renaissance and baroque style, the ground floor is home to the store section and features a modern setting with boxy displays, a sneaker wall and whitewashed brick walls. in the area upstairs there's plenty of room for play, relaxation, and as said, special events. adding up to the fun vibe is a homey screening room with leather sofas. currently on display upstairs is a collection of vintage adidas superstar shoes which have been flown in straight from the archives of the adidas headquarters in germany, in addition to rare releases from private collections. the floor is further adorned by authentic photographs of a number of leading contemporary photographers, such as martha cooper, joe jordan and beau roulette. location: moscow superstar, ulitsa kuznetskiy most 12 [tverskaya].
