moscow's lifestyle infrastructure is coming of age as a wave of new establishments opens that serves niche areas very similar to leading metropolises elsewhere on the planet. café domozhilov is a new hospitality formula that's emblematic of this trend, pairing a cool contemporary setting with tasty, moderately-priced food options. the place is set up by restaurateur gennadiy kostrov in collab with chef ivan domozhilov, two hospitality veterans who have collaborated on a string of famed establishments across town. the café occupies a 150 sqm. [1,615 sq.ft.] space on the ground floor of novinskiy passazh, a rather non-descript mixed-use complex in the popular shopping area of arbat. local architecture practice bernaskoni has designed a clean interior with a sleek industrial touch. seating 80 people, café domozhilov features an elongated bar and open kitchen set against a backdrop of black corrugated metal walls.

the industrial vibe is softened by flooring composed of different types of wood and compatible wooden furnishings. café domozhilov's menu lists a selection of classic, international dishes - obviously all made from fresh ingredients - and which includes many of chef domozhilov's personal faves. there's a variety of hamburgers, sandwiches and soups, but also light salads, wok dishes and desserts. the bar serves an abundance of drinks, from liquors to cocktails, and making it also an ideal place to meet up in the evening for one of the regular film screenings that are held here. plans are already underway to add a takeaway section on the premises in the coming months. location: novinskiy passazh, novinskiy bulvar 31 [arbat].
