maison margiela has opened a new boutique in milan – mind you, it's the brand's third outpost in this leading fashion capital – and this time it's entirely dedicated to the women's collections. the store is situated on via sant'andrea in the prestigious duomo quarter, smack in the middle of flagships by luxury peers. occupying 300 sqm. [3,229 sq.ft.] spread over two floors, the setting of the store is in full compliance with maison margiela's quirky-luxe retail aesthetic and blends in the many original details of the historic building. the haussmannian ceilings, classic molded cornices, moldings, mirrors, leather strips, lacquered rails and trompe l’oeil are fused to create an adventurous mix of modern and classic designs.
the wood-skin flooring – an innovative malleable product of which a new and very thin version with handmade inlays has been especially conceived for the boutique, to reinterpret original pavements in mareuil and cabochon marble – as can be seen on the ground floor, and not only on the floor, beautifully ties in all these elements. it's amidst this dramatic setting where the womenswear and accessories are presented, while on the first floor, a suite is dedicated to maison margiela's artisanal haute couture collection and the full range of women's footwear. to mark the 54th salone del mobile and the opening of the boutique, maison margiela will also unveil its exclusive collaboration with wood-skin. location: via sant'andrea 5 [duomo].
