milan: kapital

as the annual global design showcase, each edition of the salone del mobile is like an exhilirating rollercoaster ride for those attending. in fact, there are quite a few fun rides to take. beirut-based carwan gallery is also present in milan, and offers such an opportuniy with a zen-like installation by oevffice, a research laboratory set up by architect nicolas bellavance-lecompte and industrial designer jakub zak. the duo's creative output is based on the ideal to create objects inspired by concepts in architecture and an innovatve approach to materials assemblages. presented on the swanky premises of the recently opened senato hotel – the evocative atmosphere of silence of an inner courtyard, to be more precise – is oevffice's newest limited edition of kapital tables, a series of tables and stools based on essential forms. the collection comprises of  nine unique items, all inspired by ionic, tuscan and doric orders. each is slightly different in shape and all handcrafted in italy from white carrara marble [on through apr 18]. location: senato hotel, via senato 22 [porta venezia].
