milan: jil sander a/w 2012 collection - men

for jil sander's a/w 2012 men's collection, designer raf simons explores and defines contemporary masculinity. a series of leather coats, oversized and partially belted, anchor the collection. it's very much a tailored wardrobe with simons' usual emphasis on shapes, volumes and cuts, but obviously with subtle updates. there's a prevalence of wider lapels and double-breasted constructions while the suits alltogether are precisely outlined and essentially defined by the density of materials. jackets are cut close to the body and trouser have a wider fit and prominent turn-ups. although black is the dominant colour in jil sander's a/w 2012 collection, the monochromatic austerity is softened by subtle detailing and beautifully crafted accessories, notably simons' modern take on the brogue shoe. shown here are five looks that we particularly like.
