glamourous and chic have longtime been the usual - if not slightly worn-out - connotations that adhere to miami beach's renowned shoreline. but with the opening of the freehand miami hostel, a modern kind of cool has now officially been added to the list. no wonder, as it's developed by the new york-based sydell group, a hospitality firm that has wowed the planet's design-savvy global traveler with tempting lodgings such as ace hotels, and more recently the big apple's majestic nomad hotel. the freehand miami is a reinvention of the historic indian creek hotel, one of the city's classic 1930s art déco buildings, and is located only one block away from the beach. the property features an interior design by acclaimed design practice roman & williams, and has both private and shared rooms: there are two types of single rooms, quad bunk rooms and super 8s.
as said, the vibe here is cool - the more appealing effortless kind that is - and that's reflected in a myriad of things. from the stylish interior with hand-picked furnishings and commissioned artworks to the timo weiland-clad staff and all amenities. when staying at the freehand miami the perks are plentiful and include dipping in the courtyard pool, bocce ball courts, ping pong, bicycles, and fun events, all curated by an activities concierge. local food & beverage is by the peeps behind bar lab, who will permanently open specialty cocktail bar broken shaker at the hotel. next year a restaurant is to follow, located in a historic house on the premises. the restoration will preserve the beauty of architect russell pancoast’s original 1930s design and provide new, modern touches, like a rooftop garden above the kitchen pavilion. both will feature drinks and dishes using fresh produce and herbs from hotel garden. location: 2727 indian creek drive [miami beach].
