the annual art basel miami event has lend the city of miami a cultural significance that has reached a global level, resulting in a steep rise in high net-worth visitors. interestingly – or should we say logically? – leading luxury brands started to follow their jetsetting clients to these sunny shores, and in increasing numbers they're setting up shop in the design district. after opening a dior homme boutique little over three years ago, dior has just inaugurated a standalone flagship dedicated to its women's collection in the very same neighbourhood. the store occupies a modern three-storey building with a striking façade consisting of what seem crookedly stacked concrete blocks, created in collab with french practice barbarito bancel. what makes the store stand out even more is a dior star has been fixed to the top of the building, a symbol of good luck from the late christian dior, and one that has only given to the flagships in tokyo and seoul

the interior design has been entrusted renowned architect peter marino, and similar to other dior boutiques, the interior takes cues from the luxury brand's global flagship store on avenue montaigne in paris. obviously, the settings have a sophistication that matches the coveted merchandise, but avoiding a generic sense of luxury, the premises are dotted with commissioned artworks, most notably a video art wall by yoram mevorach oyoram, and special furnishings. the ground floor presents a mix of merchandise across all categories including accessories, signature handbags and a dedicated salon for fine jewelry and watches. one floor up a ready-to-wear salon is situated, replete with a seating area. the third floor features an exclusive v.i.p. salon that can also be used for private appointments, as well as a spacious garden terrace. location: 162 n.e. 39th street [design district].
