during last december's edition of art basel miami beach a dutch invasion took place in miami's wynwood district. in what was the first edition of a series in seasons to come, a curated group of leading urban artists from the netherlands took on a 12,000 sq.ft. [1,115 sqm.] lot provided by the 250 wynwood development company to use as a blank canvas for their high-calibre artistic debauchery. dubbed caleidoscoop, the project is a collab effort of made creative, catapult 13, the netherlands consulate general in new york city and three urban art-focused galleries in amsterdam. some of the biggest creative talents from the dutch urban art scene participated, including the london police, niels shoe meulman and haas & hahn. as the designated lot proved to be so vast, the artist had arrived well in advance, working day and night to finish the most fantastic artworks well before the official opening on dec 6. interestingly, they invited peers to join in and transform both the yard and the street-facing walls that surround it, into a garden of murals from some of the best mural painters on the planet. this month the lot will be vacated to make way for a six-storey residential and retail space. location: 250 nw 24th street [wynwood].
