melbourne: then x ten

opening tue - aug 14 at melbourne's fortyfivedownstairs gallery is then x ten, an exhibition that not only celebrates the power of the poster but also herman miller’s association with design history along the way. the furniture design company's influence isn't limited to product design and manufacturing. equally acclaimed are the now iconic art and illustration posters which were used to promote its highly sought-after furniture through much of the last century. it has now rallied ten of the planet’s leading image-makers of today and commissioned them to create a unique piece of artwork referencing the herman miller brand. the commissioned designers are eda akaltun, emily forgot, geneviève gauckler, sanghon kim, craig redman + karl maier, mrzyk + moriceau, felix pfäffli, keiichi tanaami, kam tang and jonathan zawada. the work of these designers will be showcased along with a special collection of posters from the past. these have been curated by steve frykholm, the man who has directed herman miller's graphic identity for over 40 years. location: 45 flinders lane [cbd].
