melbourne : edible art

16 september 2009 by superfuture

melbourne based installation artist lauren berkowitz transforms LUMA la trobe university museum of art gallery into a greenhouse of edible plants with her work "manna". berkowitz questions the sustainability of the intensive agricultural practices and introduced species that have been destroying the fragile australian continent since colonization. at the same time she proposes indigenous and succulent plants as a way of broadening our choices to include more sustainable food sources. the food plants, delicately arranged within and balanced on retrieved plastic waste, emphasizes our lost connection with nature and how food is produced, packaged and disposed. monday - friday 10.00am - 5.00pm. 7-30 september, 2009
