assin is one of australia’s premier retailers when it comes to luxury. they currently have two stunning retail spaces, that offer up a little piece of parisian class within the, at times drudgery inducing cbd of melbourne and syndey. the stores emphases what is being eroded within the world of fast disposable fashion, every touch point and experience that a consumer has when entering their spaces and conversing with their staff is beautifully constructed to align with the assin brand. from the exquisite, but almost brutalist architecture of the two stores, to the gorgeous fit out, the evocative soundscape that envelops the physical space, and a stocklist to match, all of which amalgamates to create a retail experience that is all but extinct in the modern epoch.
opened in 2004, the structural work within the melbourne store was done in collaboration with fender katsalidis, the interior design was spearheaded by ute martin and who worked closely with, fernando pinto, the owner to bring their ideas to fruition.
assin is a real family affair with the owner fernanda pinto (sister of lucy pinto of eastern market) being an old hand in the fashion game with more than 30 years experience. she started back in the early 80’s working alongside her side lucy, mother francelina and father fernando who was a pattern maker and owned the famed ipanema. currently enrico their son handles the menswear buy and helps with the creative side, and their father bernard is a co-director and helps with the comapnies financial and strategy.
