marrakesh has shot to the number one spot on our travel destination wish list now that french-moroccan architecture practice studio ko have added an exciting dash of sleek modernism to the city's rich blend of culture and history. they designed the amazing villa k, a holiday retreat of choice, in the village of tagadert, just outside the city. situated in a secluded hillside spot facing the steep atlas mountains, the structure has been designed with great respect of the landscape while adding a subtle kind of architectural splendour as well. resembling symmetrically stacked cubes from afar, the building's main entrance is on top of an outdoor stairway. visitors are then led across a rectangular pool that spectacularly protrudes into the wide open landscape, before reaching the single-storey house itself. villa k features two spacious suites that'll even tantalize the most jaded, design-initiated guest. each suite has a private bathroom, and ofcourse awe-inspiring views of the mountains, and surrounding wheatfields and olive trees. the staff consist of just a caretaker and a cook. location: rue amizmiz, km 24 [douar tagadert el kadi].
