our definition of an exotic retreat? the delano marrakech. yes, it's the newly opened transatlantic exponent of the famed original in south beach, and a legit member of the rather exclusive morgans hotel group. located in a stone's throw away from the old medina in marrakesh, one of morocco's four magnificent imperial cities, the delano marrakech is very much a self-contained luxury resort. paris-based designer jacques garcia created a lavish interior that's distinctly contemporary but with subtle elements of moroccan culture blended in. a swirling central rotunda commands the lobby space, with bold white columns soaring overhead. the unique ceiling made of hand-carved wood, gives way to an airy skylight that drenches the lobby with light. obviously, the feel of exotic luxe extends to each of the property's 27 suites and 44 guest rooms. they feature king-sized beds with delano’s signature crisp white linens, headboards painted by renowned local artist noureddine daifallah and traditional moroccan lighting. modern technology is obviously readily at hand, and includes complimentary wifi and ipads that allow every guests to order room service or browse hotel amenities at the touch of a screen.
the bathrooms offer a matching ambiance, and are stocked exclusively with (malin+goetz) bath products. the delano marrakech aims to tickle all senses, and boasts a string of options where to wine and dine in style. pomiroeu is the property's culinary trump card. the domain of michelin-starred chef giancarlo morelli, it's an opulently designed dining spot serving northern italian fare for discerning palates. less formal and a tad more buzzing is galerie. set beneath the hotel’s soaring rotunda, it's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as through room service. a craving for japanese food? lucky you. namazake is another upscale restaurant that offers a range of japanese-inspired dishes in a sleek setting - with sweeping views of the city from its rooftop location - in black, white and claret-reds, dark woods and luxurious stone finishes and asian-inspired accents. surrounding namazake is sky lounge, the hotel’s outdoor buzzing rooftop venue. guests can order from namazake's menu, in addition to a range of signature cocktails. at night, this place shifts into higher gear and acquires a more clubby feel.
last but not least there's bon r, the soon-to-open poolside eatery that'll feature tasty contemporary bites with a french twist. and as a true retreat the delano marrakech also offers utlimate relaxation through the pearl spa. this expansive oasis of 20,000 sq.ft. [1,858 sqm.] comes with all the facilities you'd expect from a place like this. there are separate women and men’s hydrotherapy circuits accommodating up to four guests at one time, as well as a subterranean mosaic pool, a full-service beauty salon and a state-of-the-art fitness center. feeling lazy? no problem. the facility also offers a luxurious private hammam area, equipped with it’s own lounge area, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and two limestone treatment beds. if you ask us, this place sounds too good to be true. the delano brand will be further expanded and the next property is scheduled to open in moscow in 2015. location: corner avenue échouhada + rue du temple [hivernage].
