ryoji ikeda is a japanese sound artist extraordinaire based in paris. ikeda is in fact self-taught and is known for his highly innovative artwork. after starting a career in music he quickly learned digital skills to add visual creation to his minimalist electronic music to create rather unique performances and installations. currently on at espacio fundación telefónica in madrid - where he also performed a much-anticipated gig - is the stunning data.path installation. the work is inspired by the world of mathematics, and ikeda has built an immersive and site-specific audiovisual and architectural setting where visitors can walk around. sound, space and light collectively create a highly aesthetic mathematical environment that aims to challenge the senses and have visitors explore a different perception of space and time [on through jan 5]. location: calle fuencarral 3 [chueca].
