brent bolthouse is a veteran in west hollywood's hospitality scene and far beyond. these past two decades his company has helped putting a considerable number of a-grade hotspots on the map, and this new venue is bound to be another winner. dubbed the bungalow, it's rebranded and stylishly refurbished bar and lounge located in a cottage on the premises of the fairmont miramar hotel + bungalows in santa monica. bolthouse brings a chunk of happening west hollywood to the seaside, and has transformed the 1947 structure into an oasis of effortless baja california style with the help of los angeles-based design agency [studio collective]. in the new set-up the bungalow maximizes its assets, blending lush gardens, expansive ocean views with rustic chic interior design. the new space provides distinct variety with sweeping decks, stylish meeting spaces, vaulted ceilings and intimate patios, all of which are complemented by superior service, refreshing cocktails, including the city’s best margharitas, and exclusive bites by chef ray garcia’s fig restaurant.
inside, guests will be greeted with a sense of warmth and comfort created by the roaring fireplace and through the time-worn materials such as hand-trawled plaster walls and rustic beams as well as bespoke furnishings and textured upholstery. a muted yet graphic floor of decorative cement tiles ties in all elements. the bungalow's main lounge features a soaring white-washed, wood-clad ceiling, and original to the structure. wood rafters, a wood-burning stove, and solid oak herringbone floors all add to the main lounge’s rustic charm. the centerpiece of the space is a beautifully lit and cozy main bar, clad in black + white moroccan tiles and topped with a solid oak top, warm chestnut stain. the walls throughout are adorned with a range of artwork and photographs showcasing the history of the bungalow’s property and santa monica, as well as highlighting the local socal art scene. adjacent is an intimate salon space, finished in a much richer and darker palette of custom built-in millwork, layers of curated objects and books, and supple furnishings.
also available at the bungalow is a separate dining room set up for intimate dinner parties and smaller meetings. here, decorative iron chandeliers float above a hand-crafted solid oak dining table, surrounded by cozy white director’s chairs, all bathed in a white-washed color palette. outdoors there's a prefect patio setting awaits for balmy good times. set amidst lush plants, this space has a hand-crafted outdoor fireplace, complete with small furniture groupings for lounging. from here guests step up to a new, expansive aged deck and can flow freely amongst the oak trees, and their glowing lights. at the far end a cozy exterior bar area with a green trellis above anchors the deck with a prime area to sip cocktails and watch the sun set over the pacific ocean. come winter, the entire deck will be covered in matching tent structure to ensure the views and warmth are retained. going back to your west hollywood pad may be a lot harder than you think. location: 101 wilshire boulevard [santa monica].
