oh my…london! the elite shortlist of global cities only ranks the amazing, stellar and magnificent, and the british capital is definitely on it. a leading city on every level, whether it's the arts, fashion + design, music or science. and let's not forget its major status as a financial and political center. all these factors draw millions of visitors each year, and with the olympics coming up next year, the influx will reach new heights. it's no wonder the hospitality industry anticipates, and one of london's most striking hotel openings of late is the w london. for its 40th property w hotels have pulled out all the stops to create a remarkable flagship. located in the happening soho area, the w london may be less big than you’d expect, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for it in design splendour. the hotel features 192 rooms, including 17 suites, three wow suites and one extreme wow suite, and boasts a rather stunning interior, crafted by amsterdam-based design practice concrete. the design concept is based on the duality of brit culture, and the w london fully delivers.
the ambiance accommodates both business and leisure travelers of the seasoned kind, and easily shifts from savile row daytime formality to a funky and soho-style evening vibe through classic design with a contemporary twist and nightlife accents. rooms have been innovatively designed and to such an extent that the bathroom and bedroom, usually two entirely separate areas, flow into each other while privacy is retained. as a flagship hotel, guests can enjoy a range of special facilities. there’s the w lounge, a modern take on a british gentlemen’s club but with chesterfield sofas and bar service. the happening wyld bar mimics soho’s musical history and features music and drinks inspired by the area. refined gourmets find refuge at the sister restaurant of new york’s spice market, run by top chef jean-georges vongerichten. for those who need to unwind there’s the away spa, and the adjacent state-of-the-art sweat fitness facility is for available shaping up. last but not least a 38-seater 3d screening room is available for small-scale premieres. we so want to live here! location: 10 wardour street [soho].
