Founded only in 2014 by Stockholm-based husband-and-wife team Elin Kling and Karl Lindman, TOTEME has since gained an ever-growing following home and abroad. Anticipating the global demand for its contemporary women’s silhouettes, the Swedish brand has seen an accelerated roll-out of retail spaces in some of the planet’s leading shopping destinations. As of late, London has joined the ranks with a flagship store on exclusive boutique-infested Mount Street in the city’s Mayfair area. The boutique occupies 180 sqm. (1,937 sq.ft.) on the ground floor of a late 19th-century red brick structure built in Queen Anne architectural style by architect H.C. Boyes. Large windows allow in floods of daylight, allowing ample peeks of an understated, Scandinavian-inspired interior by Swedish architecture practice Halleröd to passers-by.

The monochromatic palette is captured by whitewashed walls and ceiling paired with flooring of limestone tiles. Compatible furnishings, comprising differently sized display tables and a sales counter of the same material, offer a contrasting backdrop for an eye-catching nickel sofa by Marc Newson, and sleek metal clothing racks. The back of the store is more intimate and sees a boudoir setting with a seating area amidst displays for shoes, bags and jewellery. The aforementioned Australian designer isn’t the only one whose design contributes to elevating the shopping experience. Additional furniture pieces, and also artworks, include Carl MillesEuropa sculpture, a daybed by Olle Engkvist, a table and chairs by Otto Schultz, and a painting by American artist Wade Guyton which greets shoppers at the entrance. The new TOTEME store stocks the brand’s full women’s collection.
