well, hello new flagship! following a retail strategy all its own, alexander mcqueen's lower-priced diffusion line mcq has opened a new store in spitalfields, an area of london known for its buzzing cultural vibe, while it also happens to be the creative birth place of the brand's illustrious founder. although it's mcq's second store, it has been designated as a flagship store, given its stellar location. situated in a historic industrial building from the early 19th century, it occupies 3,000 sq.ft. [279 sqm.] set over two floors. created by the brand's hailed creatve director sarah burton and her design team, the interior features an eclectic palette of polished and rough materials.
black and white dominates the retail space, mainly captured by painted brick walls, wooden ceilings and floors. wall-mounted clothing racks and shelves of black steel, in addition to boxy displays, add an architectural touch to the setting. the new mcq store carries the line's full range of men's and women's items. but that's not all, folks interestingly, demonstrating the brand's commitment to art, the basement space has been baptized mcq hosts, and operates as a gallery space with rotating exhibitions by young artists. currently on is the inaugural show by belgian artist ermias kifleyesus. location: 115-117 commercial street [spitalfields].
