few artists can claim they've written the music history of modern times, but david bowie certainly is one of them. born in london, he burst onto the music scene in the late 1960s and went on to become one of the most innovative and influential musicians of all times. currently on at the victoria & albert museum is david bowie is, a rather unique and comprehensive exhibition which explores bowie’s multifaceted talent, zooming in on his many collaborations with artists and designers in the fields of fashion, sound, graphics, theatre, art and film. the museum was given unprecedented access to the david bowie archive and delved more than 300 objects that die-hard fans would love to see for themselves, including handwritten lyrics, original costumes, fashion, photography, film, music videos, set designs and even the man's own instruments. alongside the show a special program has been launched with workshops, lectures and talks, and legendary rock 'n roll photographer mick rock - bowie's official photographer during the 1970s - has an exhibition of his own, featuring his photographs of the iconic musician [on through aug 11]. location: cromwell road [knightsbridge].
