aesop has added a new store in london's marylebone area. as with all of its stores, the australian cosmetics brand has gone to great lenghts to create a unique retail space. for this shop french architecture practice studio ko was enlisted. they've created a setting that celebrates the local streetscape, urban history and the location's very own architectural identity while loosely referencing the works of artists lucio fontana and francis bacon, and a fern species indigenous to the british isles. while stripping the old interior, hidden windows, a fireplace and coal store were discovered, and as authenticity is a key focus, these were readily absorbed in the new design, along with the existing wooden floor. a signature feature of all aesop stores is a basin, and for this retail space a sleek molded concrete version was selected. paired with wooden shelves constructed in a ladder-like form, these add a distinct modern touch to the design. the new aesop store carries the brand's full range of skin, body and hair care products. location: 69 marylebone high street [marylebone].
