jakarta: the boy who became a monster

darbotz has been at the forefront of jakarta's urban arts scene for quite some time. he started out using the city - read: walls, alleys and bridges - to express his views, and particularly the hardships, of this vast urban jungle. opening on sun - dec 4 [5pm-8pm] at vivi yip art room is the boy who became a monster, a solo exhibition that showcases a series of canvases with which he continues his critical narrative of life in this ever-growing megalopolis of 28 million inhabitants. these canvases may lack the spontaneity of darbotz' earlier urban graffiti but he considers them to be a far more suitable medium to showcase his and matured creativity and spirit. the latter is very much evident in the intricate layering and use of specific colours to express his love and hate relationship with the indonesian capital. location: the promenade building, shop 2 + 3, jalan warung buncit raya 98 [pejaten].
