prada has revamped its boutique at alexandra house in hong kong's central neighbourhood, without doubt the most prestigious of its eight standalone stores and shop-in-shops in the city. the store measures 920 sqm. [9,903 sq.ft.] spread over two floors, and is designed by italian architect roberto baciocchi. the transformation starts right at the façade, where black marble is topped by a polished louvered paneling in shades of gold and backlit. this exterior style creates an evocative illusion of perceived movement from the outside, both during the day and at night, and was first introduced at prada boutiques in japan. a double-height glass wall reveals the interior of the second floor and frames the entrance, while forming a contrast to the sequence of sweeping window displays wrapping the store front. the store gallery presents leather goods and women's shoes in a setting of prada's signature black + white checkerboard floor that references the brand's historic flagship store in milan.
the lines emerging from the pattern on the floor seem to converge on the focal points of the display in the centre of the room, adding a special feel to smaller-scale areas. the area is furnished with polished steel counters on a black marble base, and is framed by green fabric-clad walls. the next area is dedicated to accessories and features landscape-cut black marble walls which contrast with the bright red, green and blue of the leather display counters and the green velvet clover leaf sofas by danish designer verner panton. also on the ground floor the womenswear collection is presented. the setting here is more intimate with walls clad in soft-green fabric, paired with perspex display units, steel tables and plush green velvet sofas. a special v.i.p. area is also situated here. the upper floor is the men's domain, and logically oozes a masculine vibe. the decor includes walls clad in wood, ebony flooring, dark fluffy rugs and display counters with leather-upholstered drawers. a made-to-measure area is also located here. location: alexandra house, 7-15 des voeux road, shop g4 [central].
