auckland-based eyewear brand cassius has released its s/s 2013 collection. it continues to draw inspiration from architectural building materials such as concrete, glass, steel and stone, in addition to the abstract colours from a mark rothko painting and elements of modern minimalism. the result is a series of retro-influenced styles that have got you covered for any occasion. cassius' newest additions include the bayer, with a clean and graphic frame, inspired by the crisp visual style of graphic designer herbert bayer; the corbu, a limited release from the archives, and the eichler with its clean geometric proportions and inspired by joseph eichler.
there's also the kahn with its references of louis kahn's work; the paxton, a tribute to the design principles of richard paxton; two additional versions of the tange, and last but not least, the wexler, inspired by donald wexler's structures of glass, steel and stone. cassius' eywear is handcrafted from the highest quality zyl acetate, each fitted with hand-polished lenses bearing a rating of uv400. they're made in limited quantities to ensure extensive attention is paid to not only the quality control and detail of each frame, but to the fit and functionality. cassius is available at select stores across the planet, including maxfield [los angeles], atrium [new york], quartier 206 [berlin], loom. [johannesburg] and kapok [hong kong], but can also be ordered online.
