after opening up shop in fukuoka for the first time in may of this year, aesop has now added a second signature boutique in the heart of town. the 97 sqm. [1.044 sq.ft.] retail space is a renewed collab with tokyo-based architect shinichiro ogata and his practice simplicity. taking cues from the area's storied past as one of the city's two renowned samurai districts, the the façade and back wall are constructed from panels of oxidized iron, their rich patina creating an alluring faux depth. a symmetrical configuration of the space represents the concept of synergy with identical circular shelving arrangements communicating from the black stone walls. a sophisticated play with adds to the restrained splendour as it's diffused from a white hemp-covered ceiling, two chunky and centrally placed sinks in polished steel are inspired by the blades of the katana – a samurai’s principal weapon – and perfectly match the light hue of the cement flooring. the new aesop store stocks the brand's full range of skin, body and hair care products. location: 2-4-5 tenjin [daimyo].
