after graduating in business management and working in marketing for a few years, khalid shafar had an epiphany and decided follow his passion. sharaf enrolled at the prestigious central st. martins in london to study design and went on to new zealand's centre for fine woodworking to further refine his skills, and it was here where shafar laid the artistic foundation of his new career. proud of his emirati roots and culture, and which influence his work to a great extent, khalid shafar has now relocated back to his hometown of dubai. the middle eastern boomtown has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years and the designer aims to contribute to the city's contemporary design scene through works that incorporate both emirati tradition and modernity. shafar's newest initiative is kasa, a new store and showroom where all of his designs are permanently on display. the space is located in ras al khor, an industrial part of town that the designer aims to transform into dubai's very own design hub. a compact space with spartan concrete aesthetics, kasa forms the perfect backdrop for designer's wooden furniture pieces which are all designed and made locally. location: 7 street 22a [ras al khor].
