as the capital of one of the planet's most eco-friendly countries, life in copenhagen is organised, hassle-free and most of all green. it's not surprising that such an environment lends itself to new initiatives that further enhance the quaility of living on many levels. founded in 1998 by entrepreneurs jens martin skibsted and elias grove nielsen, biomega is a bicycle brand with a distinct design-led focus that's based on four principles: integration, drivability, durability and visibility. the brand's first two bike models, the mn01 extravaganza and mn02 bonanza, were both designed by none other than marc newson, and later followed by other illustrious creatives who each paired their vision with the set rules.
biomega is headquartered in rural denmark, but a little while ago the company made a bold move to enter the retail arena with a shop of its own in downtown copenhagen. the new shop is situated in klosterstræde, a narrow but busy throughfare, where it occupies a two floors of a modern structure. the setting, clean and light with an industrial edge, reflects the brand's modern aesthetic. the basement section, a pristine white space with polished concrete florring, is home to the workshop, while upstairs on the mezzanine floor shoppers can view biomega's newest trophy bikes, a range of related products, and last but not least, enjoy freshly brewed coffee. location: klosterstræde 19 [indre by].
