berlin continues its rise as a global fashion hub. fueled by a vibrant creative community and a well-established infrastructure that includes a string of leading trade shows, the city has seen a rapid expansion of its fashion industry over the past few years. banking on this momentum and ongoing buzz, mercedes-benz - already the title sponsor of berlin fashion week - launched transmission1, the first edition of the avant/garde diaries. this is a prestigious new creative platform for current trends and issues related to art, fashion, music, trends, culture and innovation. emphasizing its ambitions to lead in automotive culture and aiming for the added value of positive association, the car manufacturer firmly embedded an artsy presentation of its next generation concept a-class mpv in the event. while the launch soirée - held at the starchitectural berlin congress center - was invite only, much of the remainder of activities on jul 16-17 can be accessed by the public. the avant/garde diaries is curated by fashion icon raf simons who rallied a group of leading creatives from across the planet to present their take on today's and tomorrow's world through an exhibition, performance, gig or installation, and these include peter saville, konstantin grcic, fischerspooner, germaine kruip and these new puritans. click [here] to view the full program. the event also boasts an online magazine that features interviews with the creatives partcipating in the berlin event to begin with. in the future selected creatives will introduce people whose ideas and works have inspired them. berlin event location: alexanderstrasse 11 [mitte].
