it's not easy to put a label on neu west berlin. but then again, if you try do so, this probably isn't your kind of place. since its inception a decade ago as an arts platform of sorts, the venue has quite actively carried the torch of berlin's famed free-spirited and at times slightly subversive vibe from before the demise of the berlin wall through several incarnations. it has shifted from its very cradle in abandoned factory halls, to a nine-storey structure from the communist era in the kreuzberg neighbourhood only two years ago. it was here that neu west berlin flourished into the multi-faceted venue that it is today, as the abundance of space gave inspiration to add a pop-up restaurant and hosting dinner parties and other artsy events, next to the considerable number of artist studios it was already sheltering.
and now, in its third incarnation, neu west berlin occupies spacious new premises in kreuzberg where it once again presents its hybrid formula of urban art-infused hospitality and the nocturnal debauchery that naturally comes with it. launched as floinc, the restaurant is furnished with vintage pieces and an array of bric-à-brac objects, and embedded in a continuously evolving setting of multimedia installations, gigs and concerts that pretty much ensure a different neo-bohemian experience every night dinner is served. well-connected with the city's subcultural entities, neu west berlin also continues to engage in various projects beyond its own walls, each with a different artistic objective, but all are unified by bearing the same free-spirited signature. location: yorckstrasse 85 [kreuzberg].
