between 2004 and 2011 lebanese artist ziad antar randomly photographed sites along the rapidly changing coastline of the united arab emirates. in the tradition of american photographers of the 1970s who bore witness to human intervention through capturing the ordinary, antar photographed across the seven emirates that make up the country. he covered various aspects of life, including the banal, and documented the country's economic boom and transformation along the way. on sat - mar 24 [6pm-8pm] antar's new book, dubbed portrait of a territory and featuring a selection of these photographs, will be launched at beirut's papercup bookstore. location: rue pharaon [mar mikhael].
