a nucleus of leading brands, siam center has longtime been one of bangkok's leading shopping malls. and while the city's retail scene is once again in accelerated transformation, this retail hub differentiates itself by showing off a commitment to innovation and creativity by leading thai and international artists and designers. exemplary of this drive is the current exhibition on its premises by directional paris-based creative agency m/m (paris). headed by frontmen mathias augustyniak and michael amzalag, the agency's expertise straddles fashion, art and music, and it has been enlisted for projects by some of the planet's most prestigious luxury brands and leading artists from the music industry. the showcase, elaborately entitled siam center idea avenue presents m/m (paris), is the duo's very first in thailand, and displays a curated selection of works in two different presentations at siam center.
the first part is an exhibition which brings together a number of striking highlights, ranging from large posters designed in conjunction with balenciaga and a design set for yohji yamamoto, to graphic designs for v magazine and a design art object called the agent. the second part consists of a sculptural art piece which was specially commissioned to celebrate the shopping mall's festive season ahead. the colossal artwork is hard to miss, measuring 6 m x 3.75 m, and is made of painted metal and reflective metal. adorned with a translucent plastic lamp and gold painted birds, it's siam center's seasonal showpiece [on through feb 28]. a seminar was also held, co-hosted by m/m (paris) and tcdc, and allowing a mixed audience of professionals and students to get better acquainted with the french duo and pick their brain. location: siam center, 989 thanon rama 1, ground floor [siam].
