fashion designer isabel marant not only continues to expand her global retail network, but also her collaboration with paris-based architecture + design practice ciguë to create signature store interiors. the brand has recently set up shop at central embassy, a new upscale mall in the heart of bangkok and packed with leading brands. the store occupies a lofty unit on the ground floor and features a setting that beautfully blends a minimalist aesthetic with elements taken from thai craft culture. woven bamboo, used in traditional structures across the country, was the starting point of the design project, and has been artfully used throughout the store.
this specific technique appeared to ciguë's team of architects as both a material refering to textile and clothing, echoing some of marant's pieces, while also being a craft that's symbolic of the local culture. interestingly, the aim of both the fashion designer and the architects is to steer clear of generic, overtly polished retail settings and branding, and instead develop more compelling designs. next to bamboo, materials used for the interior include brass, tinted mirors, concrete floors and black wood. the new isabel marant store carries both the brand's main line and the isabelle marant étoile diffusion line. location: central embassy, 1031 thanon ploenchit, shop L1-18 [ploenchit].
