antwerp: dream the world awake

© momu / photography: jean-baptiste mondino a member of the antwerp six fashion pack that first stormed the fashion world in the 1980s, belgian designer walter van beirendonck made his mark crafting colourful designs [often infused with critical comments on society and inspired by a variety of topics] and staging spectacular catwalk shows for his label w.&.l.t.. opening wed - sep 14 at antwerp's modemuseum is dream the world awake, the designer's first retrospective. next to a range of the most striking looks from van beirendonck’s collections, the show provides an overview of the universe he lives in, his sources of inspiration and his numerous other projects. additionally, it investigates the diverse projects beyond the catwalk, in which the designer participated, with special focus on his costumes for the u2's popmart tour in 1997. van beirendonck has collaborated with fashion photographer nick knight, stylist simon foxton and gq style uk to develop a new photo + video project created especially for this exhibition. location: nationalestraat 28 [centrum].
