this year antwerp's royal academy of fine arts celebrates its 350th anniversary. part of the celebrations is antwerp icons, an open-air showcase initiated by the city's modemuseum and which is held at various spots across town. the institute invited twelve directional designers, all graduates of the academy's renowned fashion department, to choose an iconic piece from their archives. photographer ronald stoops collaborated with fashion designer dirk van saene and makeup artist inge grognard to interpret these garments in shoots with printed bodysuits that capture the essence of each designer. the large-format photos are put up on stacked shipping containers - we assume that's an intentional nod to antwerp's stature as a global port - and positioned at various landmark spots across town. the list of participating designers include ann demeulemeester, bernhard willhelm, dries van noten, véronique branquinho and obviously dirk van saene himself.
