taschen's new amsterdam digs with its astute focus on the aesthetics of [contemporary] culture and sexy design, taschen's chunky coffee table books on art, architecture, design and photography are all the rage, and the many stores across the planet are lavishly designed embassies where art aficionados happily seek shelter. the publisher is expanding once again, and the latest flagship opening is on amsterdam's p.c. hooftstraat where it rubs shoulders with the majority of the city's designer fashion boutiques. split over two levels, the ground floor and mezzanine level feature taschen's best-selling and new titles and the basement section is reserved for limited edition photo reproductions and the remainder of the impressive book offerings. the opening party, attended by founder benedikt taschen and a few company dignitaries, pulled a jolly crowd of guests and press. flagship location: p.c. hooftstraat 44 [zuid].
