originally from morocco, karim adduchi grew up in barcelona but decided to trade in mellow mediterranean life to pursue higher education in amsterdam. born into a family of tailors, his father was obliged to seek fortune in spain and adduchi later joined him to increase his very own prospects. because of an initial language barrier, adduchi expresses himself through drawings. his talent being evident, he was spurred on by a teacher to enroll into art school. while honing his skills academically, adduchi immersed himself further in the world of art by taking jobs at various cultural institutions in barcelona.
three years ago he enrolled at the fashion department of amsterdam's renowned gerrit rietveld academie. still very much into drawing and painting, adduchi will have a solo exhibition at print gallery, opening there on fri - nov 22 [7pm]. on display are a series of paintings which reveal his personal and somewhat utopian reflection upon life. each portrait depicts a specific expression that's directly related to a personal life experience. adduchi's technique consist of confident sharp lines, contrasting with soft backgrounds and use of an ethereal colour palette [on through dec 13]. location: prinsengracht 628 [centrum].
