since its inception in 2008, denham has gradually evolved from a mere denim brand to a full-fledged fashion label, and one that continuously flexes its creative muscle with the fabric firmly anchored within its identity. interestingly, it also treads untrodden grounds by reaching out to entities outside of the company, and denham's ongoing house guest artist series is indicative of this focus. for the upcoming 12th edition, denham has collaborated with art comes first, the london-based creative collective led by influential style gurus sam lambert and shaka maidoh. the duo's own collection, dubbed avec ses frères, explores the power and symbolism of black this season, so it was natural to reflect this concept in the denham collab project as well, and the boys tweaked denham's signature styles in both the 5-pocket and the tops collections.
lambert and maidoh demonstrate their sartorial skill on pieces like the rhys oxford where they applied formal marcela cotton along the its iconic shoulder yoke and reworked the button-down collar to introduce bold black accents. they also took apart classics like the bolt jeans, adding discrete blind-zipps at the cuffs to sharpen the silhouette to a more tailoring standard. the monochrome rock 'n roll vibe has also been retained on styles like the gusset sweat, tubular tee and chore jacket and the 5-pocket extension including modifications of the bolt and crop in black. the denham x art comes first collab collection will be officially launched on thu – sep 15 at denham's men's store in amsterdam. location: prinsengracht 493-495 [centrum].
