amman: king abdullah II house of culture + art

the impressive king abdullah II house of culture + art, to be built in amman, has just been officially presented by the city administration. london-based zaha hadid architects was awarded the project in 2008, after an international competition. the design of the new performing arts centre has been inspired by the carved stone buildings and eroded rock formations in the archaeological city of petra and incorporates a similar interplay between architecture and nature. the king abdullah II house of culture + art will include a 1600-seat concert hall, a 400-seat theatre, an educational centre plus a series of galleries. construction works are scheduled to start in early 2012. location: omar mattar street [ras al ain]. © zaha hadid architects
