abu dhabi: artmania

few cities have marketed themselves this past decade with such a drive, and so successfully as abu dhabi. in stiff competition with the nearby hubs of dubai, bahrain and doha, it has rapidly carved itself a niche as the region's cultural destination of choice. an integral part of the clever strategy is abu dhabi art, a contemporary art fair that was only launched last year. the second edition is held nov 4-7 at emirates palace, and while the art fair, featuring a slew of leading international galleries such as white cube [london], traffic [dubai] and galerie jérôme de noirmont [paris], functions as the event's core, there are additional exhibitions, workshops, lectures and other activities as well. abu dhabi art also aims to become a major design platform and, just as last year, various international designers have been invited to participate in the workshops, accessible to audiences, and held at the venue's design studio. don't miss when you're around! location: corniche road [al ras al akhdar]. © traffic / james clar - global english [2010]
