yummm! restaurant day was first launched in helsinki in may of last year with 40 restaurants across town joining in. set up as a festival for food and restaurant culture, the event is held four times a year and has gained exponential popularity and the event's next edition on sat - may 19 will see nearly 600 restaurant openings in 16 countries across the planet. the basic idea is to set up a restaurant, café or a bar for just one day, and that could be done anywhere you fancy: your front yard, at the office, on a street corner, at the park or on the beach. and usually, the quirkier your concept is, the more people it'll pull...so make an effort to stand out! but the general principle of restaurant day is to have fun and share different restaurant experiences with other people. view the restaurant list or click [here] if you'd like to join with a restaurant of your own!

nike has teamed up with new york-based artist tom sachs to create an artisanal capsule collection. dubbed nikecraft, this striking collection features men's + women's apparel, shoes and accessories, and is inspired by sachs' cool d.i.y aesthetics and well-documented passion space travel that has been seen throughout a number of his pieces and exhibitions. the nikecraft capsule collection will initially be on sale at nike 1948 in london, and drop in select stores across the planet and later this month, including union [los angeles], opening ceremony [new york], 290 square meters [amsterdam], i.t [hong kong] and dover street market [tokyo]. london location: 477-478 batesman row [shoreditch].

now that 60% of art hk is owned by the influential artbasel fam, it hasn't only increased the event's siginificance tenfold, but also crowned hong kong as the region's undisputed contemporary art destination. this new status and the fast-growing number of affluent art collectors residing here, results in more and more showcases that run parallel to art hk's official schedule. in a previous post we talked about invisible forces - projeto rabbit, a massive exhibition of contemporary art from brazil and around the planet that was held in são paulo earlier this year. hong kong's fabrik gallery has collaborated with the people behind the showcase in brazil, and launch today code +55 brazilian art now, an exhibition of works by seven of brazil's leading contemporary artists. on display is a selection of painting, collages, photography, installations and digital art [on through jun 16]. location: 1 harbour road [wanchai].

berlin: mogg & melzer deli opening

remember we talked about berlin's fabulous new pauly-saal restaurant in a previous post? located in a former jewish girls school, we already mentioned the mogg & melzer deli on the ground floor. well, here's a closer look. run by owners paul mogg and oskar melzer, two previous nightlife veterans, it's a stylish gastronomic haven that's far too tempting to opt for takeaway. the dining section is positioned opposite the open kitchen, and the vibe here is simple, homey but most of all compatible with the building's architecture. the decorum consists of a sandblasted wooden floor, crisp white walls and a playful mix of wooden furniture and benches clad in purple fabric. a very appropriate tryptich by artist sharon lockhart, dubbed lunch break, adorns the walls while johannes albers' glass-encased sneaker adds an unexpected dadaist touch. so what's on the menu? mogg & melzer serves classic homemade jewish-american cuisine, and the delicacies range from tasty pastrami sandwiches and matzah ball soup to shakshouka and salt-pickled cucumbers. location: auguststrasse 11-13 [mitte].

ludovic zuili breathes photography, cool photography to be precise. next to being in charge of the matter as a director at renowned purple magazine, he has been responsible for the recent campaign of emerging paris-based streetwear brand bwgh. zuili is quite the multitasker and does lots of photo projects on the side, and his latest is one is a blog called a roll a week. as the name already implies, the blog's concept is to publish a roll of film every week. it's more or less a photo diary of sorts, a visual blend of travels, inspirations and everyday life. have a look!
